Sani Shinkafi Advises NYSC to Cease Posting Corps Members to Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara States

Sani Shinkafi, a former Chairman of the Committee on Prosecution of Bandits Related Offences and a former aspirant for the APC national chairmanship, has criticized the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for posting corps members to states plagued by bandit attacks. Shinkafi’s call comes in the wake of the recent abduction of eight NYSC members by armed bandits in Zamfara State, with the abductors demanding a N4 million ransom for one of the victims.

During a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Shinkafi urged the leadership of NYSC to reconsider posting youth corps members to Sokoto, Kebbi, and even Zamfara due to security concerns. He also criticized Governor Dauda Lawal’s refusal to engage in a peace dialogue with repentant bandits, contrasting it with the previous administration of Bello Matawalle, which had opted for dialogue with the terrorists, resulting in successful hostage releases in Zamfara.

Shinkafi highlighted the effectiveness of engaging with repentant bandits in securing the release of victims without paying the ransom, citing instances where repented bandits cooperated with security agencies for rescues. He expressed concern about the current security situation in Zamfara, citing a significant number of casualties and kidnappings, making no part of the state safe.
