The red-eyed tree frog (Agalychnis callidryas) is a remarkable amphibian native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. This species has captured the hearts of many with its striking red eyes, vibrant green body, and incredible adaptations that make it a true marvel of nature. 

Striking Appearance

Breeding Behaviour

Once a female selects a mate, the pair engages in amplexus, with the male clinging to the female’s back as she deposits her eggs on the underside of leaves overhanging water. After hatching, the tadpoles drop into the water below, where they undergo metamorphosis into juvenile frogs.

Conservation Status

While red-eyed tree frogs are not currently listed as endangered, they do face threats from habitat destruction due to deforestation and climate change. These issues can disrupt their delicate ecosystem and threaten their survival. Conservation efforts are crucial to ensure the continued existence of this captivating species and the diverse rainforests they inhabit.
